Piura is the capital of
Piura province and department in Peru. It is situated in the coastal
desert on the Rio Piura in the north west of the country and has a
population of around 200,000. It is the commercial centre of north western
Peru, which produces cotton, rice, and sugarcane. Its industries include
cotton gins and cottonseed-oil mills, in addition to various small
manufacturing plants. |
