Lima is the capital city of Peru. It is situated on the south bank of the Río Rímac, about 13 kilometres inland from the Pacific Ocean port of Callao at an elevation of 156 metres and has a population of approximately 8 million people. It is the country's commercial and industrial centre. Its industries include shipbuilding, automobile manufacturing, and oil refining, food processing and the manufacture of cement, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, plastics, textiles and clothing, and furniture.
