Medellin is a major city in Colombia. It is situated on the Porce River in the Aburra Valley at an elevation of 1,500 metres above sea level in the north west of the country and has a population of around 1.7 million people. Medellin has a wide industrial base that includes food processing, woodworking, metallurgy, automobiles, chemicals, and rubber products, textile mills and clothing factories. It is also one of Colombia's largest commercial centres for the coffee industry.
