Bogota is the capital city of Colombia. It  is situated in an upland basin in the Andes mountains at about 2,640 metres above sea level in the centre of the country and has a population of around 6.5 million people. It is the political and commercial centre of the country, with the stock exchange and all the main banks located here. The city is also the home of the country's tyre, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries.
