Curitiba is a major city and capital of Parana state in Brazil. It is situated near the Atlantic margin of the Brazilian Highlands and the headwaters of the Iguaçu River at  about 930 metres above sea level in the south of the country and has a population of around 1 million. Curitiba is a modern commercial centre. The city's manufactures include motor vehicles, paper, furniture, textiles, automobiles, cement, and tobacco. It is also an important processing centre for tea, beer, soft drinks, lumber, and cattle. Products are exported via the Atlantic ports of Antonina and Paranagua.
