Santa Cruz is a major city in Bolivia. It is situated in the hot, tropical lowlands at 416 metres above sea level in the central east of the country and has a population of around 750,000. It is Bolivia's second largest city. It is a trade centre for subtropical and tropical crops including sugarcane, rice, coffee, and tobacco which are grown in the surrounding area. It also has large reserves of natural gas to the north and south. The city manufactures leather products and alcohol and has a sugar refinery and an oil refinery.
