Sumqayit is a major city in
Azerbaijan. It is situated at the mouth of the Sumqayıt River as it enters
the Caspian Sea on the northern side of the Abseron Peninsula in the east
of the country and has a population of around 265,000. Its industries
include the production of aluminium, steel pipes for the oil industry,
synthetic rubber, fertilizers, detergents, and petrochemicals. |
