Mata'utu is the capital of the Islands of Wallis and Futuna. It is situated on Wallis Island (Uvea). The island is protectorate of France. It is 50 kilometres in circumference and has a fertile volcanic soil and sufficient rainfall to allow subsistence farming to take place. The total population of the island is approximately 9,000.
