Apia is the capital of Western Samoa. It is situated on the north coast of Upolu Island and has a population of approximately 36,000. Apia's economy is based on tourism and on the export of copra, bananas, cocoa, and coffee; staples, including taro and other root crops. Banking hours in Apia are Monday to Friday 9:00am to 3:00pm and business hours are Monday to Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm and Saturday 8:00am to 12:30pm.
