Perth is the capital city of the state of Western Australia   It is situated on the Swan River 19 kilometres upstream from Fremantle Harbour.  The city is the fourth largest in Australia and has a population of approximately 1.2 million, which is 75% of the states' total population. Perth is the states' major industrial  and commercial centre, with  diversified industries including paint, plaster, printed materials, sheet metal, cement, rubber, tractors, steel, aluminium, nickel, petroleum refineries and food-processing plants.
