Melbourne is the capital city of the state of Victoria. It is the southern most city on the Australian mainland. Melbourne and its surrounds are the home to over 3 million people. Melbourne is considered the financial capital of Australia, with many of the largest financial institutions having their head offices based there. The Yarra river which flows past the city is know as the upside-down river as it is always a muddy brown colour. This is because of the very light mud particles suspended in the water, it is in fact a very clean river teaming with life. Melbourne also has very variable weather and it is not uncommon to have what feels like all 4 seasons in one day. There is always plenty to see and do in this cosmopolitan city, with many parks, museums and galleries to visit.
