Cairns is a large coastal city and port in north-eastern Queensland. It is situated on Trinity Bay some 1380 kilometres north of Brisbane and has a population of around 45,000. Cairns is the centre for an agricultural region that produces dairy products, sugar, corn, fruit, tobacco, and peanuts. Other industries based in the area are, timber, commercial fishing, tin mining,  foundries, and breweries. Its' ports main function is the export of bulk sugar. Cairns is also a world renowned tourist centre for the Great Barrier Reef offshore and has a reputation for great big-game fishing.
