Butuan is a major city in the Philippines. It is situated on the Agusan River near its mouth at Butuan Bay in the north of the island of Mindanao and has a population of around 200,000. It is the main commercial centre for the Agusan Valley and is served by a port at Magallanes. It is an important highway junction and has an airport. The city has several sawmills that service the logging industry of the interior, and it is a regional petroleum depot.
