Bangalore is the capital city of  Karnataka State in southern India. It is situated on the Karnataka Plateau in the south eastern part of the state at an altitude of around 950 metres. It is the seventh-largest city in India with a population of approximately 3 million. The city has a number of industries which include, aircraft, railway-coach, and machine-tool installations run by the federal government;  electrical and telephone industries and porcelain and soap factories run by the state government, whilst privately owned concerns produce pharmaceuticals, textiles, radio parts, glassware, leather and footwear, agricultural implements, paper, and watches.
