Monrovia is the capital city of Liberia. It is situated on Bushrod Island and Cape Mesurado on the north west coast of the country and has a population of around 450,000. Bushrod Island contains the artificial harbour and free port of Monrovia, the only such port in West Africa. As the national centre of commerce and transportation, it has petroleum, paint, tuna, pharmaceutical, and cement industries.
