Maseru is the capital city of the Kingdom of Lesotho. It is situated on the left bank of the Caledon River in the north west of the country near the border with Free State province, South Africa and has a population of just over 100,000. It is linked with the South African railway system by a short line from Maseru to Marseilles on the Bloemfontein-KwaZulu-Natal main line, thus providing an outlet for farm produce, trade, and the transport of labourers.
