Siguiri is a city and river port in Guinea. It is situated on the Niger River in the north east of the country and has a population of around 50,000. It is the chief market town for the cattle, corn, millet, and kola nuts produced in the surrounding agricultural area. It is also a major exporter of rice grown in the river valleys. Alluvial gold is also worked in the area. It is the site of a hospital, a central mosque, and a Roman Catholic mission. |
