Conakry is the capital city and chief port of Guinea. It is situated on Tombo Island and the Kaloum Peninsula on the Atlantic coast in the west of the country and has a population of around 1.3 million people. The city's industries include fruit canning, fish packing, printing, automobile assembly, and the manufacture of aluminium utensils and plastics. Most of the heavy industries are based out of the city to the north east and these include the manufacture of textiles, tobacco and matches, furniture, bricks, shoes and clothing, and mining explosives. |
