Kumasi is a major city in Ghana. It is situated in the central south of the country at an elevation of 300 metres and has a population of around 420,000. It is a major commercial centre.Its economic wealth is derived from its location at the junction of Ghana's main roads and from cacao farming in the hinterland. The city's central market is one of the largest in western Africa. Handicrafts, such as traditional kente cloth are significant sources of income.
