Lambarene is a major city
in Gabon. It is situated on an island in the Ogooué River in the central
west of the country and has a population of around 40,000. It is a
trading and lumbering centre. Plantation rubber is grown in the area, and
petroleum is drilled to the northwest. It has a large palm oil factory,
and lumber and palm products are sent down the Ogooué River to Port-Gentil. |
