Kinshasa is the capital city of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is situated on the Congo river about 520 kilometres inland from the Atlantic Ocean and has a population of around 4.9 million people. It is the headquarters of major public corporations, privately owned industrial and commercial companies, and the head offices of the principal banks. The city's main industries are food processing and those producing consumer goods such as beer, textiles, and footwear. Construction and various service industries also contribute to the city's economy. |
