Pointe-Noire is a major city and port of Congo. It is situated at the Atlantic coastal terminus of the Congo-Ocean Railway 394 kilometres west of Brazzaville in the south west of the country and has a population of around 600,000. The city has light industries and mineral-processing plants, but it's chief importance is its transit trade. Petroleum drilled offshore near Pointe-Noire and processed at a refinery in the city is a major national export. |
