Oran is a major city and port in Algeria. It is situated in the north west of the country and it lies along an open bay on the Mediterranean Sea coast, about midway between Tangier and Algiers, at the point where Algeria is closest to Spain and has a population of around 650,000. Oran is the nation's second largest port after Algiers. The city is connected by rail to Algiers, Morocco, and Béchar, and its international airport lies beyond the village of Es-Senia. The industrial part of Oran, in the outlying districts, contains hundreds of small food-processing and diversified manufacturing plants. The port's principal exports are wine, cereals, vegetables, and fruits.
